This autumn opens under the banner of great dance, with three outstanding events.
The season begins with Cinderella, the iconic choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot performed by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. Premiered in 1999 at the Salle Garnier of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the work is one of the company’s most acclaimed creations and marked a turning point in the history of the Monegasque ensemble. Maillot’s version offers a poetic meditation on grief and the emotional legacy left by those who are no longer with us. Surrounding the protagonist are three female figures – the stepmother and two stepsisters – portrayed as sensual and manipulative, while the Fairy represents the radiant memory of Cinderella’s mother. The music of Sergei Prokofiev will be performed by the Orchestra of Teatro La Fenice, conducted by Igor Dronov. Set design by Ernest Pignon-Ernest and costumes by Jérôme Kaplan complete the production. Five performances are scheduled at Teatro La Fenice: September 18, 19, 20, 21 and 23, 2025.
From October 3 to 5, the curtain of Teatro Malibran rises on España, a vibrant performance by the Larreal Company of the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Mariemma. Celebrated for preserving and renewing the bolero dance tradition for over eighty years, the company presents six choreographies inspired by the rhythms and colors of Spanish culture: Mosaico barroco, Sevillanas de autor, Amalurra, Entre cuerdas, Requibro, and Nada más y nada menos, created by choreographers Antonio Pérez, Irene Tena, Eduardo Martínez, Axel Galán, and Miguel Fuente.
Bringing the season to a close is Pockemon Crew, one of the most awarded hip hop groups on the international stage, performing at Teatro Malibran on October 10 and 11. Founded in the late 1990s on the forecourt of the Opéra de Lyon, the crew, led by Riyad Fhgani, presents the world premiere of Hashtag Déclic – a new work exploring our dependence on social media and technology. Original music by Alice Orpheus, lighting by Rudy Muet, and video design by Angélique Paultes accompany this high-energy performance, produced by Association Qui fait ça? Kiffer ça!, in co-production with the Ville de Lyon and the Région Rhône-Alpes.
