Malibran Theatre

Founded in 1985 by visionary choreographer David Parsons, the renowned American touring company Parsons Dance brings a diverse repertoire of five era-spanning pieces to the stage. Recently presented for the first time in the United States (2026), David Parsons’ choreography for Ludwig – based on the second movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 – is a tribute to the expressive strength of the supreme composer. Dressed in brilliant shades of orange, the dancers execute fluid, energetic movements, seamlessly blending the technical precision of contemporary dance with joyful theatricality. The Road is a famous choreography, created in 2021 by Parsons, as a visual and emotional tribute to the journey of life, danced to music by Cat Stevens: the continuous flow of dancers on stage – which are constantly moving in one direction (from left to right) – conveys the feeling of a journey without return, a metaphor of every human existential path. Brothers from 1982 – a historic choreography created by Pearson with four hands with Daniel Ezralow, to the music of Igor Stravinsky – is a powerful and playful duet for two dancers, whose frenetic movements fluidly alternate moments of struggle and fraternal embrace. The now legendary Caught – choreography of 1982, to the hypnotic music of Robert Fripp, praised by critics – is a famous solo, created by Parsons for himself, in which the intermittent strobe light fixes, in a sequence of frames, the aerial evolutions of the soloist. Lastly, Nascimento Novo – created in 2006 in collaboration between David Parsons and the legendary musician Milton Nascimento – marks the exotic rhythms of Brazilian sunshine, to evoke vital sensuality and the spirit of belonging to a group.
